Today, as per the kind request of the Principal of V/Nedunkerny Maha Vidyalayam, the Vavuniya District Chess Association (VDCA) conducted a Chess Awareness Workshop for the students of the school. This session aimed to introduce the fundamentals of chess, promote critical thinking, and spark interest in the sport among young minds.

As part of our ongoing school outreach initiative, five chessboards were officially donated to the school's chess club, with the hope of encouraging regular practice and nurturing new talent within the school community.

We are pleased to note the keen interest shown by the students and deeply appreciate the supportive involvement of the Principal and the teacher-in-charge of sports in promoting chess at the grassroots level.

The Vavuniya District Chess Association (VDCA) conducted a successful chess awareness program at V/Puthukkulam Junior School, following the invitation from the In-Service Advisor (ISA) of Vavuniya North. The event aimed to introduce the game of chess to schoolchildren in a fun and engaging manner. With support from the school staff, students participated eagerly in the hands-on session. VDCA emphasized the cognitive and educational benefits of chess, and encouraged the formation of a school-level chess club. We are pleased to contribute to the early-stage development of chess in this school and hope to see their students excel in the future.

As part of our ongoing chess promotion program, the Vavuniya District Chess Association visited Tharanikkulam Ganesh Vidhyalayam for a special workshop on chess, organized under the guidance of the Vavuniya North Zonal ISA. The program focused on introducing chess to students through interactive sessions and demonstration games. The students were curious, engaged, and quick to grasp the fundamentals of the game. VDCA also offered suggestions for forming a school chess club and provided guidance on how to participate in inter-school events. We thank the principal and staff for their cooperation and warm reception.

In response to the request made by the In-Service Advisor (ISA) of the Vavuniya North Zonal Education Office, the Vavuniya District Chess Association (VDCA) conducted a chess awareness workshop at Vavuniya Tharanikulam Primary School. The session introduced students to the basics of chess, its rules, and the benefits it offers in improving thinking skills, discipline, and focus. Both students and teachers showed great enthusiasm. The workshop also encouraged the school to initiate a chess club and join the district-level activities under VDCA. We look forward to supporting the school's progress in promoting chess among young learners.

The Vavuniya District Chess Association (VDCA) conducted a highly informative workshop at the Divisional Secretariat Office in Vavuniya, focusing on how local chess players can earn FIDE ratings and understand FIDE norms for title qualifications.

The session attracted aspiring players, coaches, and chess enthusiasts from across the district. Key topics included:

• How to get listed in the FIDE rating system

• Requirements for participating in FIDE-rated events

• Understanding FIDE norms

• Guidance on tournament formats, pairing systems, and fair play regulations

VDCA Promotes Chess at Poovarasankulam Maha Vidyalayam - 30.07.2024

 

In response to the request of the Principal of Vavuniya Poovarasankulam Maha Vidyalayam, the Vavuniya District Chess Association conducted an introductory session on chess for the school students. With the support of generous sponsors, five chess boards were handed over to the school's chess coordinator in the presence of the Principal.

Additionally, the Principal has kindly arranged for the school library to be used as a space for students to play chess during their free periods, further encouraging their engagement with the game.

Guidance was also provided to the school’s chess coordinator on how to officially register the school with the Sri Lanka School Chess Association (SLSCA) and on the steps to establish a formal school chess club.
